Zelie Kuliaikanu'u Duvauchelle
“Ho'oponopono ~ an ancient
practice for everyday living.”
Zelie was born on the island of Moloka’i. Her grandparents and parents taught her to know and love the ways of old Hawai’i including a relationship with nature and the energy that operates in all things. Ukuleles and guitars strumming to Aunties dancing improvisational Hula were commonplace and thus began her love affair with Hawaiian music.
Through the years, Zelie has fine-tuned her musical skills and learned how to use her intuition when sounding and singing, which has lead her to develop the concept of Intuitive Sound Healing. Zelie was awarded a grant through the Hawaiian State Foundation on Culture and the Arts to study with Clyde “Kindy” Sproat, a national treasure and keeper of Hawaiian stories and songs. Aided by her great Aunt Zelie Duvauchelle Sherwood, author of Beginners Hawaiian, Zelie translated Hawaiian songs and perfected her pronunciation and intonation. This experience gave Zelie the appreciation for how Hawaiian chant and language holds many secrets, remedies, spiritual practices, cosmology, and psychology and how it is a vehicle for passing down cultural information through chant, songs, and stories. Zelie’s musical career has brought her numerous experiences including performing at the Michigan Womyn’s Music Festival and the recording of her Ka Mo’i Wahine O Ka Pu’uwai album.
Zelie’s gifts reach far beyond her music. She has had a life long journey cultivating her innate ability for energy healing with her first experience occurring at the young age of 15. Zelie’s ability to see and feel energetic fields became apparent while attending a conference called “Mind Expansion” conducted by Dr. Jules Bernhardt, author of Self Hypnosis. Dr. Bernhardt immediately recognized Zelie’s ability and encouraged her in the cultivation of her healing abilities. Her journey continued as she learned rebirthing breathwork techniques to release blocked energy similar to those taught by Sondra Ray, author of Celebration of Breath. Zelie also studied with Serge Kahili King, author of Kahuna Healing and Urban Shaman and began to see the parallels of Kahuna and Shaman. The role of Shamanic healing took deeper root in Zelie’s healing philosophy when she met and traveled with Maria Elena Cairo through Mexico and Peru learning about South American plant medicines and expanding her induction into Shamanism. Zelie’s journey has also initiated her into the Heart Center teachings of Dr. Brugh Joy, author of Joy’s Way and Avalanche. Brugh’s knowledge of and connection to Hawai’i offered a wonderful support for Zelie to directly experience the transpersonal realms. Most recently, her journey into those realms has been further fostered by her study at the Oneness University in India where she attended a 21-day initiation process to become a giver of Oneness Deeksha Blessing. At the 2007 Oneness Blessing Conference in Los Angeles, Zelie performed an opening chant and recorded E Homai.
Through Zelie’s study of music, language, and Shamanism, she has learned to see the multi-layered reality in which we all live. The foundation of her Hawaiian heritage and the numerous teachings she has received gives Zelie the opportunity to share her experiences and healing abilities with those around her.
From her home in Tucson, AZ she weaves a unique tapestry of Ho’oponopono (Hawaiian Energy Healing), Intuitive Sound Healing, Deeksha, Breathwork, Shamanism and music for those seeking spiritual transformation. Zelie offers private and group sessions including Hawaiian Healing Intensives as well as teaching ho’oponopono and intuitive sound healing to medical students and residents through the Program in Integrative Medicine at the University of Arizona.
